ACGME (RRC) Approved Surgical Critical Care Fellowship

Length of training: 1 year
Training Philosophy: Mastery of critical care concepts and skills is promoted through sharing information with others including medical students, residents, faculty, and staff.

Requirements:

  • Completion of a US or Canadian General Surgery Residency
  • Board Certified or Board Eligible (at the start of Fellowship) for the American Board of Surgery
Salary: $51,336 for the Surgical Critical Care year

Rotations:

Mandatory:
  • Shock Trauma Intensive Care Unit, Memorial Hermann Hospital
Elective Rotations:
  • Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, Memorial Hermann Hospital
  • Neuro Critical Care Unit, Memorial Hermann Hospital
  • Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit, Memorial Hermann Hospital
  • Medical Intensive Care Unit, Memorial Hermann Hospital or LBJ General Hospital
  • Burn Unit
  • Transplant Intensive Care Unit
  • Clinical Trauma
  • Methodist Intensive Care
  • LifeFlight Pre-hospital rotation
  • Advanced ultrasound rotation

Optional Additional Training:

The Clinical Trauma Fellowship is individualized to each applicant and is focused on developing their future practice whether it will be in academics or a private setting. The year is also customized to address specific deficits that the candidate feels that he/she might have with respect to operative, non-operative, and interventional management.
