Faculty Profiles
William I. Douglas, MD
Associate Professor and Chief of the Division of Pediatric Cardiovascular Surgery.
Dr. William Douglas is a specialist in pediatric and congenital heart surgery, whose practice is solely dedicated to children and adults with congenital heart disease. He is a native of the West Coast, having been raised in Oregon, and he attended college and medical school in California. He received most of his training in the Midwest, including his fellowship in pediatric cardiac surgery at the University of Michigan, one of the largest volume pediatric cardiac centers in the world. Dr. Douglas has spent most of his professional career at the University of Kentucky, where he was the Chief of Pediatric Cardiac Surgery for 7 years before relocating to Houston in 2007. Besides his practice in pediatric cardiac surgery, Dr. Douglas is active in the development of new medical devices for pediatric cardiac surgery. Dr. Douglas also makes an annual trip to Central or South America to perform heart surgery for impoverished children in developing countries. Dr. Douglas’s wife, Sue Ann, is a Pediatric Dermatologist with the Kelsey-Seybold Clinic. They keep busy with their medical practices and raising their 7 children.
Felix W. Tsai, MD
Assistant Professor in the Division of Pediatric Cardiovascular Surgery.
Dr. Felix W. Tsai specializes in pediatric and congenital heart surgery. He grew up in California and attended college and medical school in Chicago. After graduating from medical school, he received most of his surgical training on the East Coast. In addition, he spent a year investigating the hemodynamics of single ventricle physiology in various models. His current research pursuits include single ventricle physiology and right ventricular myocardial remodeling after neonatal surgery.
Dr. Tsai is active in thoracic surgery organizations, both at the national and international level. He is currently involved in optimizing surgical outcomes and healthcare initiatives in third world countries.

Pediatric Cardiovascular Surgery Nurse Coordinator
Beth is a registered nurse with seven years of Pediatric Critical Care experience, and has recently become the Pediatric CV Surgery Nurse Coordinator. She is a native of Ohio, but has spent the last seven years of her nursing career working in Lexington, Kentucky. She has been married to her husband Tim for seven years.

Sarah Dockter Eshelman, CCP
Pediatric Cardiovascular Surgery Perfusionist
Sarah has been a perfusionist , specializing in pediatric and congenital heart surgery for over a decade. She received her undergraduate degree from Iowa State University and attended Rush University in Chicago for her perfusion education. Sarah began her perfusion career at Hope Children’s Hospital in Chicago, IL and subsequently moved to Houston in 2003 to help develop the pediatric perfusion program at The University of Texas/ Children’s Memorial Hermann Hospital. She continues her work there today.
