Division of Pediatric Cardiovascular Surgery 


William I. Douglas, MD

Associate Professor and Chief of the Division of Pediatric Cardiovascular Surgery.

Dr. Douglas is a specialist in pediatric and congenital heart surgery, whose practice is solely dedicated to children and adults with congenital heart disease. He is a native of the West Coast, having been raised in Oregon, and he attended college and medical school in California. He received most of his training in the Midwest, including his fellowship in pediatric cardiac surgery at the University of Michigan, one of the largest volume pediatric cardiac centers in the world. Dr. Douglas has spent most of his professional career at the University of Kentucky, where he was the Chief of Pediatric Cardiac Surgery for 7 years before relocating to Houston in 2007. Besides his practice in pediatric cardiac surgery, Dr. Douglas is active in the development of new medical devices for pediatric cardiac surgery. Dr. Douglas also makes an annual trip to Central or South America to perform heart surgery for impoverished children in developing countries. Dr. Douglas’s wife, Sue Ann, is a Pediatric Dermatologist with the Kelsey-Seybold Clinic. They keep busy with their medical practices and raising their 7 children.
